Overview

Jae Kyu Lee is the HHI Chair Professor in the College of Business, and currently serves as the head of Graduate School of Green Growth and the Director of EEWS (Energy, Environment, Water, and Sustainability Initiative) Research Center (former EEWS Initiative) at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). He has been a Professor of Management Information Systems and Electronic Commerce at KAIST since 1985, and served as Dean of the College of Business during 2006-7. He is a Fellow of Associate of Information Systems, the global organization of IS researchers.

He received a B.A. in Industrial Engineering from Seoul National University (1973), a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the KAIST (1975) and a Ph.D. in Operations and Information Systems from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (1985). He was a visiting professor of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (2000), University of Texas at Austin (1995), Carnegie-Mellon University (1989), and City University of Hong Kong (2001).

He was the founding editor-in-chief of the journal, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (Elsevier, SSCI and SCIE Accredited), and was the founding chair of the International Conference on Electronic Commerce. During 2005-6, he was appointed as Associate Dean of Faculty and Research, School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University.

He was chairman of key international conferences such as the Doctoral Consortium Chair of the International Conference on Information Systems (2011), International Conference on Electronic Commerce (ICEC 1998, and ICEC 2000), Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (2001, 2006), and the 3rd World Congress on Experts Systems (1996), as well as many other international conferences. He was president of academic societies such as Korea Society of Management Information Systems and Korea Society of Intelligent Information Systems. He has served for the program committee of numerous international conferences in information systems and intelligent systems.

He authored four English books and seven Korean books with many editions in the area of Electronic Commerce, Information System, and Intelligent Systems, including the world best seller, Electronic Commerce: A Managerial Perspective (2012, 2010, 2008, 2006, 2004, 2002, 2000, Prentice Hall, co-authored with Efraim Turban), Artificial Intelligence in Finance and Investing (Irwin), Management Information Systems, and Intelligent Systems. He published about 60 international journal papers (aside from 33 Korean journal papers) in leading international journals such as Decision Support Systems, Management Science, Communications of ACM, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Expert System with Applications, European Journal of Information Systems, and many others. He presented many keynote speeches and proceeding papers in major international conferences and workshops such as ICIS, PACIS, PRICAI, and ICEC.

He received best paper awards nine times from the major conferences such as the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (Internet and Digital Economy Track in 1997) and Korean national conferences of Management Information Systems, Intelligent Systems, and Management Science. He received the most honorable award in Korea, Maekyung Economist Prize (2004), which is given to the best researcher in Economics and Management. He also received a national decoration from the Korea Government for his contribution to the development of the IT industry. KAIST has awarded him three times for Outstanding Academic Achievement (1998), International Academic Collaboration (2009), and Contribution for the Development of KAIST (1993).

Currently, he serves as associate editor of leading international journals such as Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerceand Journal of Global Information Management. He is also honorary advisor of the journal, Electronic Commerce Research & Applications and Pacific Asia Journal of AIS.

His research themes evolved to IT Management to Green Business. His primary research topics in IT Management is Axiomatic Theory in IS Research, Semantic web in electronic commerce, unified modeling with AI and optimization, and intelligent scheduling systems for various manufacturing industries. He has conducted 47 granted projects on eCommerce strategies for financial sectors, SCM and eProcurement Systems, case based project management systems, intelligent scheduling systems for ship building, power generation, and refinery. He currently cultivates research on the Smart Grid and Green Business Strategies.

이재규교수는 한국과학기술원(KAIST) 에서 1985년부터 교수로 봉직하고 있으며, 현재 세계정보시스템학회장 (2015. 7. 1 - 2016. 7. 31), 밝은 인터넷 연구센터장 (2015. 8. 1. - ), KAIST EEWS(Energy, Environment, Water and Sustainability)연구센터장 (2008. 7. - 2015. 3.) 역임, 현재 HHI-KAIST EEWS 석좌교수, KAIST 경영대학장 및 테크노경영대학원장을 역임하였으며, 2013년 6월에는 지속 가능한 미래의 녹색인재 양성을 위하여 KAIST 경영대학교내에 녹색성장대학원을 설립하였다.

이교수는 서울대학교 학사, 한국과학기술원 석사, University of Pennsylvania의 Wharton School에서 경영학 박사를 취득한 후, KAIST교수로 28년간 봉직하는 동안 Carnegie Mellon University, University of Texas, City University of Hong Kong 등에서 교환교수를 역임하였고, 2005년 싱가폴 경영대학교 정보대학 부학장을 역임하였다.

1996년에 설립하여 소장직을 맡고 있는 International Center for Electronic Commerce는 매년 개최되는 국제학술대회의 주관기관으로 발전하였다. 그리고 저명한 Elsevier 출판사에서 창간한 Electronic Commerce Research and Application의 초대 편집위원장으로 지명되어 국제적 학술지를 선도하고 있다. 또한 2006년 말레이시아에서 개최된 아시아 태평양 정보시스템 학술대회의 의장을 맡았으며, 국내산업을 위해서는 전자산업진흥회의 초빙으로 CIO협의회장, 한국전산원의 초빙으로 Web Korea Forum, 전경련의 초빙으로 e-Business 사례 편집위원장을 맡은 바 있다.

학술 활동으로는 국내외 논문상을 13회 수상하였고, 매경의 이코노미스트 상을 수상하였다. 이교수가 공저한 Electronic Commerce 의 영문교재는 세계적으로 가장 널리 MBA 교재로 채택되고 있는 등 집필활동 등의 기여가 인정되어 정보문화의 대통령상과 근정포장이 각각 수여되었다. 국제 학술대회 기조연설에 다수 초빙되었고, 62편의 국제학술논문 이외에도 다수의 학술대회논문과 국내논문을 발표하였다. 학회활동으로는 한국경영정보학회 회장, 한국지능정보시스템 학회 회장 등을 역임하였고, 국제 학술대회의장을 다수 역임, 2011년 12월에는 중국 상하이에서 개최된 개최된 세계정보시스템 국제학회에서 세계정보시스템학회(Association of Information Systems)펠로우(Fellow)로 선임됐다.

산학협동 활동으로는 67회에 연구용역을 수행하였으며, 국민은행 사외이사, 한빛은행, LG유통, 현대중공업 자문교수 역임하였고, 현재, 녹색성장위원회, 녹색성장 과학기술협의회 위원으로 활동 중에 있으며, 매 춘추의 필진으로 기여하였다.
